An early morning thunderstorm consisting of wind and rain has caused widespread outages to Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services electrical infrastructure. As of 7:00 am today, FMCS is reporting about 1,000 members without electricity.
FMCS reminds members to stay safe during this period and remember to stay away from downed power lines. Do not trim trees or remove debris on or near downed power lines. Only power company crews or their contractors should remove trees or limbs touching power lines. Additionally, members are urged to stay a safe distance away from active work zones and restoration workers on the job.
If you are experiencing an outage, check your fuses or circuit breakers to be sure that there is not a problem in your home’s electrical system.
- Check with your neighbors to see if they have electricity.
- Safety is a priority for our outage crews and members. If you plan to run a generator, it is very important that it is on a double-throw transfer switch.
- Remember it is important, and your responsibility, to protect your sensitive electronic equipment.
- Consider downed power lines energized. Stay away and call FMCS or 911.
